What is Mental Health?

Stress & Work?
Relationship problems?
Fears & Anxieties?

'Mental' is a word which is seen almost exclusively in negative terms - as a term of abuse in the playground, at work, in the pub or club, and even in the family.

But we are all 'mental' beings - in the same way as we are all 'physical' beings. And mental health is just as important as physical health.

If we are to grow and to flourish, if we are to contribute individually and collectively to society, we need to accept that we are 'mental' beings with emotional and spiritual needs, as well as physical ones.

Make a Meal of it!

To celebrate this year’s World Mental Health Day on 10th October, the Mental Health Foundation will be encouraging people to Make a Meal of it by getting together to eat with their friends and families. There is a body of evidence to show that sitting down for a meal with good company can be positive for a person’s mental health.

Visit www.mentalhealth.org.uk website at the beginning of October for seasonal recipes, top tips on how to eat healthily on a budget and to find out more about the social and psychological benefits of mealtimes.

You will also be able to send an animated invitation to your friends and family requesting their company.

The results of the Mental Health Foundation’s online survey looking at the nation’s cooking and mealtime habits will be revealed on Tuesday 10 October.
